    WRC Argentina: Tidemand takes the lead on day one

    Ten thousand spectators celebrated the first clear best time by Pontus Tidemand / Jonas Andersson in the special show stage in the centre of Cordoba, marking the start of the Rally Argentina. The Swedes were already the fastest in the shake down on Thursday morning. However, the rally gets going for real on Friday, with the first special stage on around 20 kilometres of Argentine gravel.

    WRC Argentina: ŠKODA seeks to extend championship lead

    The 2017 season couldn’t be going better so far for ŠKODA. Works drivers Andreas Mikkelsen (winner of the Rallye Monte-Carlo and Tour de Corse together with co-driver Anders Jæger) and Pontus Tidemand (winner in Sweden and Mexico with co-driver Jonas Andersson) share top place on the championship table in the WRC2 classification with the same number of points. Tidemand is the only ŠKODA works driver on the grid in Argentina and is in a position to take over outright leadership of the WRC2.

    Fifteen years ago, the Rally Argentina was the sixth round of the 2002 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) season and was the first event of the year which saw teams heading outside Europe. Finnish driver Toni Gardemeister was one of the ŠKODA works drivers back then and – along with his co-driver Paavo Lukander – he was driving a ŠKODA OCTAVIA WRC Evo2 car in the main WRC category.
