The Rally Guanajuato México is the first event of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) season to take place outside of Europe, as drivers pit their skills against the hot gravel of Mexico. This rally is a chance for drivers to prove themselves on the surface and for the cars to prove they can cope with the 30 °C temperatures.

The other big feature of the Rally Guanajuato México is elevation. The cars will reach the highest point of the season, at 2,737 meters above sea level, and at such heights engines lose power and struggle for air. This in turn makes mistakes more prevalent and plays a big part in making this rally one of the toughest on the calendar.
