This year sees the Rally Turkey returning to the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) calendar for the first time since 2010. It will be the seventh time that Turkey has hosted a round of the WRC after being part of the schedule from 2003 to 2006, in 2008 and again in 2010. But all the previous WRC editions took place elsewhere. The 2018 Rally Turkey will be based in the city of Marmaris, a seaside resort located in Muğla Province, in the south-west of the country.

The rally mostly takes place on challenging gravel roads in the hills and countryside to the west and north of the city. It is a scenic event with the backdrops to the action including mountains, seaside, forests and plains. It will be a fresh challenge for all of the drivers, with none having previously driven this course before. This should help to level the playing field as the competitors will have to learn each special stage from scratch.
