The Spanish round of the WRC is the Rally Catalunya-Costa Daurada, a unique event in that it is the only mixed-surface round of the season. After a day of gravel competition, teams must then convert their cars for two days of asphalt stages. This can create technical challenges as well as requiring drivers to quickly adapt their styles accordingly.

The asphalt stages of the rally are smooth and quick but not without risk as drivers can be tempted to go fast where it is not always advisable. The hot weather is also a factor and managing tyres is critical throughout. All of which make the Rally Catalunya-Costa Daurada a fast and fascinatingly tactical event.
