That was a new flying Finn on the top of the WRC2 podium at the Rally Finland (27th to 30th July), ninth round of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC), as Jari Huttunen claimed victory at his home event. He led home a ‘one-two’ finish for FABIA R5 drivers, a result which means it is twelve WRC2 wins in a row for ŠKODA. There will be no fewer than fourteen ŠKODA FABIA R5s at the start of the Rally Finland (27th to 30th July), the ninth round of the 2017 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC), and five of them will be competing for points for the WRC2 championship.
Since its arrival on the world rallying stage, the ŠKODA FABIA R5 has competed at two editions of the Rally Finland, and it could scarcely have a better record to date, with both the ŠKODA Motorsport works team and ŠKODA customer teams enjoying some fine performances.
Ninth round of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) hosts a country where rallying runs in the blood. The Rally Finland takes place from 27th to 30th July. Based around the University town of Jyväskylä in the west of the Finnish lakeland region, this spectacular rally sees drivers taking on 25 special stages, which comprise 315 kilometers of competitive distance on fast gravel roads through beautiful forests. Speeds are such that the event has gained the nickname of the ‘Finnish Grand Prix’ over the years.
ŠKODA’s success at the recent Tour de Corse has completed a clean sweep for the FABIA R5 car in FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) events. As Andreas Mikkelsen and Anders Jæger crossed the finish line to secure victory in the WRC2 category in Corsica, they ensured that a FABIA R5 has now won every WRC rally.
