    APRC Malaysia: Veiby and Gill – two ŠKODA drivers fighting for APRC lead

    With the third round of the 2017 FIA Asia-Pacific Rally Championship (APRC), International Rally of Johor in Malaysia (11–13/08/2017), coming up the title fight so far is the most exciting since years. After reigning champion Gaurav Gill and co-driver Stéphane Prévot of Team MRF ŠKODA won the opening round in New Zealand with Ole Christian Veiby and Stig Rune Skjaermœn finishing second, the Norwegian pair fought back with a victory at Rally Canberra in Australia ahead of their teammates. In the championship standings Veiby is now leading with two points ahead of Gill.

    Second rally in Asia Pacific Rally Championship (APRC), same story: ŠKODA MRF teams Ole Christian Veiby / Stig Rune Skjaermœn and Gaurav Gill / Stéphane Prévot were fighting right from the start for the victory. On the first day of the event, the lead changed several times between the two ŠKODA MRF drivers. On leg two OC Veiby pulled away and secured his maiden APRC victory.

    APRC New Zealand: Gaurav Gill wins Rally of Whangarei ahead of OC Veiby

    ŠKODA MRF Teams Ole Christian Veiby / Stig Rune Skjaermœn and Gaurav Gill / Stéphane Prévot were engaged in a fierce battle right from the start of the Rally of Whangarei. Reigning champion Gaurav Gill, this time paired with co-driver Stéphane Prévot, was fastest on the opening short “Super Stage”. During the first leg the Norwegian rookie team Ole Christian Veiby / Stig Rune Skjaermœn took the lead. On the third but last stage, Veiby had a technical issue, after a roadside repair incurred a time penalty and dropped to second place behind teammate Gill. The two-time champion finally secured victory on the opening round of the APRC 2017.

    ŠKODA enters 2017 FIA APRC with Gill and Veiby

    ŠKODA driver pairing for the FIA Asia-Pacific Rally Championship has been decided. Reigning champs Gaurav Gill / Glen Macneall, which won the title in 2013 and 2016, will compete with Norwegian rookie team Ole Christian Veiby / Stig Rune Skjaermœn. Both teams enter the competition in ŠKODA FABIA R5 run by Australian team MRF. Gill won all last year’s rallys in the APRC and had already secured the championship one round before the end of the season. In 2017, however, he’s likely to face fierce opposition from promising Norwegian rookie Ole Christian Veiby.
