By winning the season’s finale at Rally of India ŠKODA FABIA R5 driver Gaurav Gill and co-driver Stéphane Prévot also won the drivers and co-drivers titles. MRF ŠKODA teammates Ole Christian Veiby / Stig Rune Skjærmoen suffered gearbox issues on the first leg, but fought back in impressive style to second overall, finishing as championship runner-ups as well. APRC Japan: ŠKODA driver Gaurav Gill wins – ŠKODA takes FIA APRC Cup for Manufacturers

At Rally Hokkaido, second but last round of the 2017 FIA Asia-Pacific Rally Championship (APRC), Team MRF ŠKODA’s Gaurav Gill and co-driver Stéphane Prévot achieved a dominant win. They took the lead on the second stage and defended it up to the finish line. Meanwhile, their teammates, talented Norwegian shooting stars Ole Christian Veiby and Stig Rune Skjaermœn, had bad luck. With a slow puncture, they slid into a ditch on the third stage and had to retire for the day. After re-starting on the second leg they were fastest overall on the final day eventually scoring valuable points for the championship. While reigning APRC Champion Gaurav Gill regained the lead in the drivers’ championship from teammate Veiby, ŠKODA prematurely won the FIA APRC Cup for Manufacturers. Also, Team MRF ŠKODA became the winner of the APRC Teams Award. The drivers and co-drivers title will be decided only between the two MRF ŠKODA teams at Rally of India (24 to 26 November 2017).

APRC Malaysia: Second win for Veiby ahead of MRF ŠKODA teammate Gill

The third round of the 2017 FIA Asia-Pacific Rally Championship (APRC), International Rally of Johor in Malaysia (11–13/08/2017), was more or less decided on the second special stage. Reigning APRC champion Gaurav Gill and co-driver Stéphane Prévot of Team MRF ŠKODA hit a tree stump and bent the steering of their ŠKODA FABIA R5, losing considerable time and the chance to win. Despite sliding off twice in unpredictable road conditions as well, teammates Ole Christian Veiby and Stig Rune Skjaermœn achieved the fastest stage time and took the lead from there up to the finish line. With their second win of the year the Norwegian shooting stars increased the lead in the championship standings. With only two APRC rounds to go, it looks like the next champion will be a ŠKODA driver again. Since 2012 every APRC champion was driving a ŠKODA FABIA. The Czech manufacturer is now on the route to defend the manufacturers title as well.
