    Fifteen years ago, the Rally Argentina was the sixth round of the 2002 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) season and was the first event of the year which saw teams heading outside Europe. Finnish driver Toni Gardemeister was one of the ŠKODA works drivers back then and – along with his co-driver Paavo Lukander – he was driving a ŠKODA OCTAVIA WRC Evo2 car in the main WRC category.

    The Rally Mexico first joined the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) calendar in 2004 and apart from missing out on the schedule in 2009 because of rotation, has been ever present since then. The event’s location has meant that European-based teams have not always made the long journey to take part. That has been the case for ŠKODA Motorsport too, with the various Fabia incarnations only appearing five times to date. But there have nevertheless been some notable performances.

    As with this season, back in 2012 the Rally Sweden was also the second round of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) and as now it saw drivers taking on the unique challenges of the only real winter rally of the WRC calendar. Five years ago, Volkswagen Motorsport competing with two ŠKODA FABIA S2000s, whilst current ŠKODA works driver Pontus Tidemand was also taking part in the same car. It proved to be a memorable event for all of them.

    40 years ago: double victory for the ŠKODA 130 RS at the Rallye Monte Carlo

    40th anniversary of the sensational achievement at the Col de Turini: in January 1977, the ŠKODA 130 RS, driven by the works pairing of Václav Blahna and Lubislav Hlávka, won the Rallye Monte Carlo in the category for cars up to 1,300 cc. Milan Zapadlo / Jiří Motal came second in its sister car. With this double victory, the predecessor to the ŠKODA FABIA R5 – the current WRC 2 car – wrote one of the most renowned chapters of the brand’s motorsport history.
