As part of the Sosnová Classic event, Škoda and its Škoda Motorsport department presented a number of amazing cars, including racing legends. One of the rarest of these is the Škoda Sport, which took part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1950. It was driven around the track by Andreas Mikkelsen and supported by two-time 24 Hours winner Hans-Joachim Stuck.

The Škoda Sport, which was close to a success at Le Mans in 1950, is now a highlight of every motoring event it appears at. This was also the case in Sosnová, during the Sosnová Classic weekend. The legendary car is extremely handsome on the track and fascinating at the same time: the lightweight roadster with 50 horsepower can be surprisingly fast. Andreas Mikkelsen, the rally driver who won the IRC championship title in 2011 and 2012, the ERC title in 2021 and the WRC2 title in 2021 and 2023 with Škoda cars, has tried it out.

“A safety frame would have been nice,” Mikkelsen assesses as he drives. “And it's going to be 850 laps in Le Mans distance. So enjoy it.” urges legendary driver Hans-Joachim Stuck, who won Le Mans twice (1986 and 1987), placed second twice and third three times. In total, he competed in the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans eighteen times.

"Now I understand how the drivers at Le Mans must have felt at the time. It's great!" Mikkelsen grins behind the wheel. After exiting the special, he adds: “Driving a rally car seems a lot safer than this.” He then changes his role with Stuck, as the legendary German pilot sits behind the steering wheel of the current racing special Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 “The steering is great, the engine response is great,” says Stuck about the modern car.

It is obvious that both drivers really enjoyed the ride with cars from a completely different era than “theirs”. Check out their enthusiasm in the video.
