Škoda Motorsport has earned the highest level of environmental accreditation from the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA). The team successfully completed a demanding two-month audit process and demonstrated that even in motorsport it is possible to be environmentally conscious.
The FIA awards sustainability accreditation on the basis of compliance with criteria across 17 different areas. These are subject to a rigorous audit conducted according to strict criteria and standards, including, for example, ISO 14001 standard. Based on the results of the audit, the FIA may grant accreditation at one of three levels. In this process, Škoda Motorsport received the highest of the three accreditation levels. The accreditation is valid for the following two years.
“We are proud to have received the FIA environmental accreditation certificate, which proves that our efforts are worthwhile. Our commitment to the sustainability of our program is not motivated by a desire for recognition. However, this accreditation gives us further motivation to continue our efforts toward sustainable development and rally car production with even greater ambition,” says Michal Hrabánek, Head of Škoda Motorsport, regardingthe award.
Škoda Motorsport has achieved the highest level of accreditation thanks to a range of partial measures contributing to the sustainability of the manufacturer’s racing programme. Since 2021, Škoda Motorsport has been testing and subsequently using sustainable fuels for its rally cars.
Sustainability has also been supported by the Škoda Enyaq RS Race project, many of whose components are produced from biocomposite materials developed in cooperation with suppliers. Some of these materials have already been introduced into the Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 cars. Engineers in Mladá Boleslav also tested and developed sustainable oils and synthetic fluids in cooperation with suppliers, which are more sustainable than conventional operating materials. Synthetic engine oil entered production in 2024 and became the initial fill for all Škoda Motorsport cars. The livery of the racing specials is produced using environmentally friendly films certified with GREENGUARD Gold.
Positive results have also been delivered by a research project focused on recycling waste from 3D printing. This initiative made it possible to return 70 kilograms of 3D-printing waste back into production. A technological change has also helped to significantly reduce emissions of volatile organic compounds, specifically by 18.4% over the past five years, with further reductions planned.
In order to reduce its carbon footprint in warehouse management and the transport of parts to customers, Škoda Motorsport uses centralised shipment delivery and sustainable alternatives to plastic packaging and storage materials. Traditional bubble wrap has therefore been replaced by paper padding, while the packaging material and paper adhesive tape used for shipments are made from partially recycled paper. INKA pallets are used for storage.
Biodiversity also plays an important role. The premises in Mladá Boleslav, where Škoda Motorsport is based include green areas with shrubs and trees, some of which were planted by employees themselves. In addition, three bee colonies with approximately 150,000 bees are kept on the premises.
In the environment of competitive motorsport, this accreditation is unique. Fans will therefore be able to see its logo on team trucks, the Škoda Enyaq RS Race and the factory Škoda Fabia RS Rally2, which will be on display, for example, at the Sosnová Classic event.
