    ŠKODA looks back on successful motorsport year WRC2 Champion and 14 national titles

    ŠKODA is looking back on its so far most successful year in motorsport. Pontus Tidemand / Jonas Andersson won the WRC2 category of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC), while ŠKODA Motorsport took the WRC 2 manufacturers title. Multiple Czech Champions spearheaded the group of ŠKODA teams which in 2017 won in total 14 national championships. Furthermore, the FIA Asia-Pacific Rally Championship (APRC), the FIA Middle East Rally Championship (MERC), the FIA South American Rally Championship (CODASUR), the FIA African Rally Championship (ARC) and the U28 category of the FIA European Rally Championship (ERC) were won by crews competing in a ŠKODA FABIA R5. In 2018 ŠKODA Motorsport will field its youngest driver squad ever in the world championship’s WRC2 category.

    WRC Wales: ŠKODA’s Pontus Tidemand wins WRC2 – Category victory number 10 for ŠKODA

    Time to celebrate for the team of ŠKODA Motorsport on the podium of Wales Rally GB, the penultimate round of the 2017 World Rally Championship (WRC). Newly crowned WRC2 Champions Pontus Tidemand / Jonas Andersson, driving a ŠKODA FABIA R5, scored a dominant fifth season win in WRC2 category. On their first rally in Wales teammates Juuso Nordgren / Tapio Suominen from Finland finished with a convincing fifth place. Recovering from an off during the first leg, after which their ŠKODA FABIA R5 needed some repairs, Ole Christian Veiby / Stig Rune Skjaermœn gained valuable experience on the Welsh gravel tracks and reached the finish as well. From twelve rallies during the 2017 WRC2 season Tidemand’s victory in Wales was the tenth by a crew driving a ŠKODA FABIA R5.

    WRC Wales: WRC2 Champion Pontus Tidemand leading in Wales

    Mixed emotions for the team of ŠKODA Motorsport at Wales Rally GB, the penultimate round of the 2017 World Rally Championship (WRC). While newly crowned WRC2 Champions Pontus Tidemand / Jonas Andersson, driving a ŠKODA FABIA R5, moved into the lead already on the first stage and built a convincing lead until the end of the first leg, Ole Christian Veiby / Stig Rune Skjaermœn had to retire from second after they rolled their ŠKODA FABIA R5 during the fifth stage. Meanwhile, teammates Juuso Nordgren and Tapio Suominen from Finland demonstrated a steep learning curve. Step by step they improved their speed, eventually moving up to seventh position at the end of the first leg.

While experienced Tidemand is aiming to score his fifth 2017 victory in WRC2 category, youngsters Veiby and Nordgren want to demonstrate their skills behind the steering wheel of the works ŠKODA FABIA R5.

On his debut for the factory team, driving a ŠKODA FABIA R5 for the very first time on tarmac stages, Juuso Nordgren / Tapio Suominen defended fourth position in WRC2.
