The Škoda Fabia Motorsport Edition brings the brand’s 125 years of motorsport heritage from the stages to the road and into the hands of enthusiasts. Before the first owners get behind the wheel, however, the car was put through its paces by two-time WRC2 World Champion Andreas Mikkelsen. Check out how much he enjoyed the experience.
Andreas Mikkelsen is used to tearing up the tracks of world competitions behind the wheel of the Škoda Fabia RS Rally2. This time, however, he took the wheel of a different exceptional car: the road-going sibling,Fabia Motorsport Edition. This exclusive anniversary model is based on the Fabia 130 and will be produced in a strictly limited series of just 125 units.
“The design was inspired by the factory-run Fabia RS Rally2,” Mikkelsen points out, referring to the decals whose appearance echoes the special livery created for this year’s anniversary celebrations. The car also features a lowered sports suspension, 18-inch alloy wheels, red brake callipers and gloss black exterior details.
The interior is equally exceptional. “The sports seats provide a perfect driving position,” says Mikkelsen, highlighting one of the car’s key features. The lower section of the steering wheel carries a special Škoda Motorsport 125 emblem, while a number of other details are unique to this edition. Among them is a dashboard plaque bearing the car´'s serial number.
The Fabia Motorsport Edition is by no means intended solely as a collector’s item. Its purpose is to deliver a truly enjoyable driving experience. “Under the bonnet is the fantastic 1.5 TSI evo2 engine, producing almost 180 horsepower and delivering excellent performance at higher engine speeds,” Mikkelsen says with a smile. He also highlights further modifications that enhance the car’s driving dynamics: “The chassis has been optimised for the use of 18-inch wheels,” he explains.
The champion also praises the tuning of the ESC system. “When you lift off the throttle, the car dives into the corner beautifully thanks to a slight oversteer characteristic, which is great fun. Anyone who enjoys driving will love this,” says Mikkelsen while driving on a circuit. According to him, the icing on the cake is the traditional mechanical handbrake. One pull of the lever and a spectacular spin are enough to put an ear-to-ear smile on his face.
In addition to this exceptional car, customers purchasing the Fabia Motorsport Edition will receive a carefully, down to the last detail, designed gift package. It includes driving gloves, a car cover featuring the Škoda Motorsport 125 Years logo, a protective transport case, a certificate of authenticity and a section of the safety roll cage from a Škoda Fabia RS Rally2, presented as a unique collector’s item.
