    Fabian Kreim and co-driver Frank Christian came into 2017 as the reigning German rally champions and were determined to retain their title. They were once again competing in a ŠKODA FABIA R5 for the ŠKODA AUTO Deutschland team, in a car prepared and run by Baumschlager Rallye & Racing team, but unlike the previous year, when they had also driven in the FIA Asia-Pacific Rally Championship, this year Germany was their sole focus.

    The young German driver Marijan Griebel cruised to victory in the first ever FIA ERC Junior U28 Championship this year. Driving alongside co-driver Stefan Kopczyk in a ŠKODA FABIA R5 prepared and run by the Baumschlager Rallye & Racing Team, the reigning ERC Junior Champion had secured the title after the fourth of six rounds in the series, with three victories and another podium finish to his name.
